Success Stories in the Science of Complex Systems

Authors: Jeffrey Johnson and Jorge Louçã

Abstract

We have collected potential success stories in complex systems research. The stories are presented in a way that makes them accessible to the general reader and are attractively illustrated. The criteria of ‘success’ is clearly articulated so that the achievements of the science are not oversold. We divide our stories into those that have been proved in practice (e.g. the scheduling systems of George Rzevski) and those that report promising work that may lead to major breakthroughs. These success stories are published in the Liquid Journal of Complex Systems, allowing authors to receive some feedback from the community and improve their articles, from the liquid turbulent to the liquid flowing states, until a liquid published state where success stories will be printed and distributed in a hard copy of the journal.
